Violence Research Centre

Nynke Niezink, assistant professor at the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA), is visiting the Violence Research Centre (VRC) for two weeks.

She is working with Dr Paolo Campana on a project on what drives organised crime-related violence, using a network perspective to study the emergence of violence committed by organised crime group members.

Niezink holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Her research focuses on the development of statistical methods for social network analysis, with applications in education, health sciences and management. Most recently, she has been working on methods to analyse criminal network data.
