A 12-month EBLS feasibility study began in October 2016. It lays the foundations for the large-scale longitudinal study, generating the knowledge and establishing partnerships for the successful implementation of the main project. It comprises:

(1) Landscape analyses on core challenges regarding: organisational structures and impact strategy; optimal strategies to address study design, sampling, and cross-site comparability challenges; elaboration of innovative research questions related to early child development.

(2) Site assessments in selected cities with the aim of identifying the resources as well as potential challenges for conducting the study, and identifying potential partners.

(3) Stakeholder advocacy activities that raise awareness of the study and generate the support needed to secure long-term funding.

Financial support for the feasibility study is provided by the UBS Optimus Foundation, by the Research Support Fund of
the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and the British Academy.
