Policy Impact

POLICY IMPACT

Supporting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals on violence reduction and promotion of children’s mental health and well-being is a core objective of EBLS. EBLS will dedicate around 10% of the resources to impact activities. By this, we mean contributions that help progress in national and international policies regarding child protection, positive early child development, and violence prevention.

An impact plan is being developed in consultation with the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children, the Prevention of Violence Unit of WHO and UNICEF. It will identify major strategic priorities for protecting children from violence and supporting the healthy early development.

In each site, partnerships are being established which will support knowledge transfer among stakeholders. This will include information campaigns and targeted events for decision makers.

The cross-cultural comparative focus of EBLS will help develop evidence-based recommendations that highlight context-specific forms of violence exposure, risk factors and prevention strategies in addition to more generic approaches. This will inform the scope of recommendations and provide for tailoring to the local
context.

As part of EBLS, we will measure service availability and utilisation relevant for child well-being. This will provide decision-makers with valuable information about the reach and effectiveness of child protection, parent support, and pre-school skills programmes. EBLS aims to follow the cohort of children throughout the current SDG period. It provides a scientific backbone for crucial questions related to violence against children, child wellbeing, education, and health. It will also advance a long-term and sustainable approach towards an evidence-based public health policy in the areas of violence prevention, behaviour issues, and child mental health.
